Ramaria strasseri (Bres.) Corner Fruit body 8-23cm high, 6-23cm wide; a dense cluster of terminal branches, often incurving, growing on larger branches; light yellow or orange, slightly more pinky-brown at the tips, turning grayish orange to dark brown with age. Base 25-70 x 15-70mm, short, thick, tapered, with 2-3 primary branches up to 4cm in diameter; white when fresh, staining light yellow to grayish orange; strongly amyloid. Flesh white. Odor sweet. Taste not distinctive. Spores subcylindrical, striate-ornamented, 11-20 x 3.5-6µ. Deposit grayish yellow to orange. Clamps present. Habitat on the ground under western hemlock. Found in the Pacific Northwest. Season September-November. Edibility not known -avoid, many Ramarias can cause stomach upset. |
